Prompt: Reputation, Philippine Election, and Crypto Scams, by Yoji Shinkawa

Yesterday, after our school guard gave me the newspapers, I immediately rushed to read them while my wife was preparing breakfast. Three news articles caught my attention. I was not able to write about them. I attempted this morning, but I could not sustain my attention. After taking a brief sleep, I think I can now complete this piece.

The Role of Reputation in Business.

The first article captured my interest due to two words that are popular on Hive. These words are "reputation" and "business." Though a few would consider blockchain reputation insignificant, many still consider it very important.

As for the second word, influencers on Hive keep mentioning the idea that your Hive account is a business.

Central Idea and Arguments

Though the context of the article is local and applied to traditional business, there are insights we can glean from it that I think can apply to an entity that is not confined by a territorial boundary. I am thinking of Hive.

The writer argues that a company's reputation is a reflection of its values and interaction with stakeholders. Whatever brand you are building, if your reputation suffers a negative public perception, that can impact brand loyalty and financial stability. To prevent this from happening, a company is expected to implement proactive measures to manage such risk. Even studies support the idea that there is a strong link between the company's market value and its reputation.

And then the writer cited how companies in the Philippines demonstrate the mentioned proactive measures. Prioritizing transparent communication, embracing sustainable practices, and addressing cybersecurity are just concrete actions to protect the reputation of the company. By these actions, Philippine companies demonstrate their commitment to stakeholders, and business ethics, and showcase resilience as well. These proactive strategies centered on transparency are crucial for businesses in the Philippines to maintain their reputation and foster sustainable growth. Source

From the above two paragraphs, I gleaned four insights that apply to a digital nation like Hive:

Reputation Reflects Values and Interactions

On Hive, a user's reputation is built through their interactions, content quality, and engagement with the community. Users with positive interactions, valuable contributions, and ethical behavior gain a good reputation. Consistently engaging positively with the community and creating high-quality content reflect positively on a user's reputation.

Impact of Negative Public Perception

Negative comments, plagiarism, or unethical behavior can harm a user's reputation on Hive. Negative perception can lead to downvotes and reduced visibility for their content. Users need to maintain a positive online presence and respond professionally to criticism or feedback.

Proactive Reputation Management

Users need to actively manage their reputation on Hive by following community guidelines, respecting copyrights, and avoiding plagiarism. Engaging in meaningful discussions and contributing original, valuable content can enhance one's reputation. Monitoring interactions and addressing issues promptly is crucial to managing reputation effectively. I think this equally applies to both individual Hivians as well as to developers of DApps.

More than a week ago, I sent 17 $HIVE to my leodex wallet. I created a thread for this issue for I consider it not a minor one. It has the potential to grow big. Three other Hivians expressed the same concern for they sent a bigger amount and have been waiting longer than me. Failure to resolve this might boil down to issues of trust, credibility, and DApp utility.

Commitment to Stakeholders and Community Ethics

Upholding community values, respecting fellow users, and contributing to the community's growth is essential in blockchain networks like Hive. Engaging in ethical practices, supporting community projects, and adhering to the platform's rules showcase a user's commitment to stakeholders and community ethics.

In short, the insights related to reputation management, ethical conduct, and proactive strategies are highly relevant to blockchain networks like Hive. Users who apply these principles can build a positive reputation, influence the community positively, and contribute to the platform's sustainable growth.

Politics in the Philippines is Deadly

I know that the sub-title applies to all countries and is not only limited to the Philippines. Perhaps, a more appropriate heading would be "Politics is Deadly Everywhere."

During the recently concluded barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections in the Philippines, there were 237 recorded incidents, resulting in 19 deaths and 19 injuries, according to the Commission on Elections (Comelec). Most incidents occurred in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM). The reported incidents included clashes between rival supporters, fatal shootings, and shelling near polling sites. The Philippine National Police (PNP) recorded a total of 244 election-related incidents, with 35 validated as election-related. The PNP also enforced a gun ban, leading to the arrest of 2,032 individuals and the confiscation of 1,540 guns. Source

I wonder why despite the violence that surrounds political election, people still believe that the parasitical class are running for office to serve the public. What a worthy cause indeed even resorting to killing people just to serve.

Crypto Has Been Demonized Once Again

Imagine applying to be a data encoder via Facebook and ending up in prostitution. This is the story of the rescued victims from the recent raid done by authorities in the Philippine Offshore Gaming Operations (POGO) hub in Pasay City. Whenever I read news like this, I applaud the law enforcers for doing their rightful job, protecting people's lives and liberty.

The raid exposed a torture den in addition to sex dens and illegal activities including love and crypto scams. The Presidential Anti-Organized Crime Commission (PAOCC) discovered various torture devices like tasers, rattan sticks, baseball bats, airsoft guns, and a wooden club. The facility was involved in torturing individuals who hadn't paid their fees. A total of 731 suspected human trafficking victims, including foreigners and Filipinos, were rescued. Among them were seven Filipino women found in an aquarium-style viewing chamber. Six suspects, including five Chinese nationals and a Filipino recruiter, were arrested and faced charges of human trafficking and torture. Source

These are the three news articles that captured my attention, one very positive and two ugly realities of life.
